How will the Yorkshire Champions Group support young people in your education setting?
This ‘free’ service from the Yorkshire Champions Group exists to support the school and the teachers. Irrelevant of the Champion that you are engaging with and building a partnership with, they can have a lasting, positive impact on children and young people.
Community Champions
Engaging with Community Champions, through inspiring speeches, mentoring and coaching sessions, or visits to the work place can inspire any young person. With the right direction and support, all young people have the potential to succeed.
The purpose of the Community Champions is to inspire, encourage and motivate children and young people. The Champions hope to change attitudes about how some children feel about education; knowing that negative behaviours and beliefs about schooling can have a negative impact on the young person’s rest of their life.
The ‘Educational Bank Account’ is a concept that Community Champions discuss with children and young people. The idea that every bit of effort and knowledge retained now is almost like banking invisible money. Throughout a child’s lifetime in education, they are building up this invisible money and can use it wisely to make informed decisions later on in life. This tool is vital for children to understand the importance of acquiring skills and knowledge and grabbing opportunities when they can.
Ultimately, the Community Champions will convey the value and importance of motivation and effort in education. With this passion to succeed, it will lead to better outcomes for our young people and more opportunities that will open up.

Business Champions
From an early age, it is important to educate children about the various careers available to them once they finish school. Businesses are an excellent source of information and provide guidance to our next generation of work force. The expertise of businesses helps to educate young people in a way that is real-world, relevant and meaningful.
Young people tend to be highly receptive to receiving career information and advice from the specific individuals that work in that domain. Businesses may offer work experience and other hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, careers fairs and visits from representatives. Giving these opportunities to learners in education, enables them to make informed decisions about their future.
Giving young people the prospect to seek future career paths and employment opportunities is invaluable. The involvement of businesses helps to show relevance to young people. With this in mind, children and young people may become more motivated in education, knowing that this in turn will bring about academic success, leading to more opportunities that can be taken.
The sharing of knowledge and skills from businesses with educational institutions is an invaluable tool to ensure the young people are best prepared for their next steps in life.
