Nirmal Singh MBE FRSA – Chairman
Nirmal Singh is best known locally, regionally and nationally as the manufacturer of quilts through his former business, Nirmal Razai Mart & Company Ltd, which he started a few years after he came from India with £3 to his credit. This turned out to be a huge success. Assisted by his ever present wife, Harmesh Kaur, they ran the business “Open All Hours”, and also brought up their two sons Narinder Sekhon and Simmy Sekhon.
Both Nirmal Singh and Harmesh Kaur always believed in the power of education and ensured that their two sons received a fantastic education culminating in one son qualifying as a solicitor and the other as a barrister. Nirmal Singh used his new found wealth to diversify into property regenerating many disused iconic mills in Bradford, creating and assisting entrepreneurs and new businesses in adding many much-needed jobs in Bradford. At the same time, he also spent time working with various charitable organisations and acting as a bridge between all the ethnic minorities and the police, fire service, Bradford Council and the Department of Education.
On a private basis Nirmal Singh has privately aired his concerns to various Prime Minister’s and Ministers of the UK from time to time.
