Lewis Smith-Connell JP – Programme Manager
Programme Manager – NHS England
I work as a programme manager within NHS England, responsible for two multi-million pound national programmes which support the development of integrated care systems across England. In particular, they focus on establishing a new way of targeting those in most need and using data to complement clinical and strategic healthcare decision making.
I am also a serving magistrate on the West Yorkshire adult criminal bench

I am a member and active participant in the Magistrates in the Community (MIC) group and this includes organising and delivering talks to schools and community groups as well as delivering the Bradford state school mock trial event. Although I have to admit I am new to this and i am on the organising group currently for my first event.
I am a trustee of Citizens Advice Wakefield and District. I am also the board lead for equality, diversity and Inclusion, which involves leading a review of staff inclusivity, service access, quality and outcomes for different sections of the community.
I am a scout leader and help to run a beaver section which is a great opportunity for young people aged 6-8 to learn through play and structured activities
I have been an Asset Based Community Development worker, ABCD is about recognising the skills, strengths and opportunities within a community that can make positive change, and rather than top down institutions imposing changes involving and co-producing solutions of the community for the community.
I have been a lecturer teaching in a further education institution supporting adults who want to redirect their careers and lives through access courses onto healthcare career paths.
I am a leader and have carried out several structured learning courses on developing my leadership potential, including recently being selected for a healthcare leadership masters degree as part of the NHS Leadership Academy Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme.
I am a coach and while I have not yet been able to complete formal qualifications in this field I have supported a number of colleagues to overcome challenges and blockers through application of coaching techniques as part of a formal coaching structure in the civil service.
