Lecturer in Criminology and Policing, Leeds Trinity UniversityI am a proud lifelong resident of inner-city Bradford, where I was educated in local schools and went on to pursue further and higher education both within the city and across the region. I hold professional qualifications as a Youth and Community Worker and a Careers Adviser and have more recently trained as a Mental Health Advocate and Champion. I am currently undertaking postgraduate studies towards a Master’s in Business Administration.With over 25 years of voluntary service, I have contributed to a wide range of local, regional, and national organisations. I currently serve as a Magistrate in West Yorkshire and hold fellowships with both the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and the Higher Education Academy (HEA). I am a member of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Armley and Chair of Bradford Organic Communities Service. I am actively involved with Citizens UK, Magistrates in the Community, the Professional Muslim Institute, and serve as a Community Champion with Remembering Srebrenica.Professionally, I am a Lecturer in Policing and Criminology at Leeds Trinity University. My research interests include Compassionate Policing and Justice, the role of faith in community and society, and the educational philosophy of Paulo Freire (1921–1997). I am also a regular visitor and alumnus of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OXCIS) and serve as an Honorary Visiting Lecturer at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. Sectors worked in and routes taken:   I began my career in local government, initially supporting community sector infrastructure organisations and local regeneration initiatives. I then transitioned into the adult education and skills sector, where I focused on careers advice, guidance, and employability support for a range of voluntary and community sector organisations in Bradford and beyond, working extensively with young people in inner-city areas.Following this, I moved into the higher and further education sector, holding roles across various local, regional, and international institutions.
